Families and Children Together, F.A.C.T.,
was created in 1993 by a group of
foster parents and social workers.

Their mission was, and remains, creating a
family-focused agency that encourages and
fosters the development and healing of children
facing emotional and behavioral challenges.

What Makes Us Special?

We are a small, unique agency providing high quality
services to families and children.  Our success is due
to the skill, creativity and perseverance of our
Staff, Foster Parents, and Respite Providers.
We remain a highly selective agency that strives
to respond to the individual needs of the child
and family. We are also committed to a network
style that encourages and supports creativity and
involvement throughout the agency.

Puzzle Pieces

We Value Families.

We are an agency dedicated to the entire family.
At F.A.C.T., we believe the family is the center for
helping children grow and heal. We recognize that
as families grow and change, we must remain
responsive to providing quality services that support,
encourage and recognize their growth.

Adoption

We are committed to working with families
who want to grow their family through adoption.

While we are not currently placing infants or children
in adoptive families, we are offering the following services:

Pre-placement home studies for families working with
an out of state agency or who are adopting the child from
the child welfare system. F.A.C.T. works cooperatively with
other agencies to provide the home-study and related
requirements. The home-study process also includes
all required post-adoption updates and post-adoption support.

Families and Children Together recognizes that as children and families grow and change,
features of the services we provide must also mature and transform to meet the common
and unique needs of the people we serve.

        Two Girls

The Kindred Way Program was created out of this understanding, originally designed for female adolescents, the program has evolved and is now providing the same quality
services for young adult women with developmental disabilities.

Kindred Way continues to provide an enriched,
warm home environment that focuses on living in the least restrictive environment possible. We recognize the need for autonomy in adulthood. We also recognize the need for
individual support and resources to live as independently
as possible, to take control of daily living and future goals.
The home offers a 24-hour support staff with a ratio of
one staff to two residents. The house is located in Winterport, Maine and nestled in a serene residential neighborhood approximately 12 miles from Bangor.

Our home accommodates women who are ambulatory.

Referrrals are accepted from consumers, guardians,

Parenting Education Classes

. . . .The Key to Success

No two families are alike.  Children who are born into the
same family may not be alike, either.  While parent-child
relationships may change with time, they will last a life-time.
That makes parenting a process that requires a great deal
of time, energy, and emotion.

To help families make the most of their life together,
F.A.C.T. is pleased to offer a parenting program based on the
Basic Parenting program.  Core components of the parenting
education course cover a range of parenting topics, such as:

                              Puzzle Pieces Child Development

                              Puzzle Pieces Positive Discipline

                              Puzzle Pieces Communication Skills

                              Puzzle Pieces Self Esteem

Puzzle Pieces Physical and Emotional Wellness
                                             for Parent and Child

The Basic Parenting program is a nationally recognized,
skill building program that focuses on the basic parenting
principles of learning and implementing beneficial behaviors
that will help children grow into thoughtful, productive adults.
The program is recommended for all parents.

Family Life
We use a variety of therapeutic methods and styles to assist
children in resolving early life traumas. We understand that
each child has unique challenges and strengths. Thus, our
programs focus on providing specialized interventions that
best meet the specific needs of the child. Our methods are
grounded in the knowledge that social, emotional and
developmental growth occurs within the context of living
in a family environment.

Supervised Visitation Services

Our visitation program provides a safe, nurturing and supportive atmosphere for children and family members to visit and maintain relationships. We provide services for birth families, extended
family members, and siblings who are living apart. Visits occur
in our office, in the community or in a family's home.

Puzzle Pieces

One focus of our work is to assist parents to enhance current
positive parenting skills while developing new parenting
practices. Visitation supervisors assist parents in planning
activities that promote the physical, developmental and
emotional well-being of their children. At the conclusion
of each visit, there is the opportunity for parents and the
visitation supervisor to discuss the visit in relation to
pre-established goals, parental expectations and
parent-child interactions. Another focus of our work
is to provide opportunities for family members to
maintain positive connections through safe and
supported interactions and activities.

Puzzle Pieces

Our visit rooms are designed for family comfort and are
fully equipped with age appropriate books, toys,
crafts and activities.

Puzzle Pieces

Visitation services are also available to families who,
through a court order, are in need of supervised visitation
services in a neutral facility.

Puzzle Pieces

This service is partially funded by the Department of Health
and Human Services. Referrals are accepted from DHHS,
the court system or private individuals.
